We have two single storey blocks of 25 stables each, giving us 50 stables in total.
Our stable yard is located in a secluded area of the Club’s stable complexes, providing a tranquil environment for the horses.
One of the stable blocks is air conditioned, providing a cool living area for horses that require it. The other block is well ventilated with ceiling fans, providing an open-air dwelling space.
The stables are well designed and spacious, and give us a user-friendly platform to work from with our horses. Do arrange to come down and take a look at our stabling facilities.
Our turf racetrack is oval shaped and is 2000 meters in length. Races are held in a counter clockwise direction. With Singapore’s regular high rainfall, the track’s sand base allows it to drain well, providing a consistent racing surface throughout the year. The track cambers on the bends and has a slight incline up the 400 meter (short course), and 600 meter (long course) home straight.
The 1500 meter long Polytrack serves as a surface for racing and training. It provides a consistent cushioned surface. There are 3 further Polytrack training surfaces, one of which is an uphill track. A natural sand track is also available for slow training, along with a trotting track.
There are a number of practice barrier stalls located at the beginning of some of the training tracks at Kranji.
We often train our horses to bounce out from these barriers to ensure that they jump sharply from the gates on race days, thereby starting them off on a good footing in their races.
The Club’s equine swimming pool provides low impact aerobic exercise for the horses, which forms an important part of our training schedules.
Swimming adds variety to the horses exercise program, effectively providing enough resistance to ensure a good workout.
This aid in maintaining fitness provides buoyancy allowing the horses to be more flexible through their joints and soft tissue.
The mental relaxation of swimming also gives the horses an enjoyable distraction from track training, whilst maintaining good muscular condition.
Michael’s equine treadmill provides an alternate, rider less training experience. It’s variable speed and incline controls enable us to tailor make training programs, from pre-training, through to racing preparations.
We take advantage of scientific advances in training by incorporating heart rate and blood lactate readings into our training regimes.
Our treadmill’s unique Tread-Safe cushioning system greatly reduces the impact on hooves and legs, and provides a smooth and consistent training surface. Importantly, the horses do enjoy their training experience on the treadmill.
We have access to horse walkers, which allow our horses to walk or jog at a controlled speed. Whilst in the walkers the horses are free to move within a rotating compartment, and are not restricted by a handler or rider.
The horses are free to move around at their own will while exercising, allowing them to relax and let down.
This is an ideal way to let our steeds wind down on Sundays, and on days after fast gallops and races.
